A POLICE sergeant has been charged with sexually abusing a young girl.

Mick Defries, 58, from the British Transport Police, faces two counts of sexual touching, Sussex Police said.

The historic allegations relate to a girl under the age of 16.

Defries, of Barnham, near Bognor Regis, West Sussex, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The officer was remanded in custody and will next appear at Lewes Crown Court on December 12.
