HAMPSHIRE police officers have taken on an investigation into what happened to a pilot whose plane came down in the English Channel.

Hampshire Constabulary is leading enquiries into the disappearance of Sascha Schornstein, pictured.

Mr Schornstein took off from Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire on Sunday, bound for an airport in France, but never arrived.

At around 3.30pm, police were told the wreckage had been discovered by French search and rescue teams.

Officers say they are keeping an open mind as to what happened, and have launched a missing person investigation. They have released his photograph in case he has been spotted since the crash.

Anyone with information about Mr Schornstein should call Hampshire police on 101.
