A SERIES of spot checks carried out at off-licences in the Chichester area found no counterfeit alcohol or tobacco on sale.

Trading Standards officers from West Sussex County Council joined licensing officers from Chichester District Council and Sussex Police in an operation to discover whether counterfeit wine, spirits or tobacco were being sold illegally.

Ten premises were visited during the spot checks.

Cllr Pete Bradbury, who heads public protection in West Sussex, said: ‘As pleasing as it was to find no evidence of counterfeit alcohol and tobacco on sale in the Chichester area, we cannot be complacent.’
