Over 300,000 calls to police in Hampshire go unanswered

In just 12 months alone 85,722 calls to Hampshire’s non-emergency number 101 were terminated between 2014 and 2015.

And since 2012 there were 306,749 terminated calls the number.

That places Hampshire as the third highest number of cancelled phone calls in the country.

The Mail Online reported that out of 36 police forces who responded to a request for figures there were 3,469,984 terminated calls between 2012 and May this year.

Calls to 101 are for non-emergencies where police are not required to come out urgently.

No-one was immediately available from Hampshire Constabulary to comment.

The 101 number was originally brought in by Labour in 2006 but axed before being reintroduced between 2011 and 2012 to replace local police station phone numbers.
