A PAEDOPHILE who lived a lie for 30 years has finally been jailed.
Colin Main was a popular man who ran a small groundworks business and who played football for Havant and Waterlooville FC when he was younger. But for years he hid a dark secret.
Now the 65-year-old has been locked up for 10 years.
Main, of Bishop’s Wood Road, Mislingford, Fareham, had denied the charges but he was found guilty after a trial of four counts of rape, one of attempted rape and four of indecent assault.
The offences took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Main lived in Cowplain, and involved two victims. He showed no emotion as the jury delivered their verdicts.
A friend of one of his victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: ‘They carried this terrible secret around with them for over 30 years and cannot believe the weight of the burden until this horrendous secret had finally been told.
‘This was when the burden was finally lifted and she finally feels like she can get on with her life, protecting other children who were in danger of his grasp.’
