A MENTAL health patient threatened to stab staff and fellow patients at a hospital.

Gary Lamb had been sectioned and was being treated at Elmleigh Hospital, in Havant, when he lost his temper on June 19.

The 22-year-old was angry that staff would not let him use the telephone.

When the nurses tried to take him back to his room Lamb produced a piece of metal and started threatening the people around him.

He was eventually overpowered by staff who took the weapon from him.

Lamb, of North End Avenue, North End, pleaded guilty to a public order offence when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard he has more than 20 previous convictions.

District Judge Anne Arnold adjourned the case to allow time for a psychiatric report to be carried out on Lamb.

The report will consider whether Lamb should be ordered to remain in hospital under the care of mental health experts.

He will be sentenced in August.
