A BURGLAR was frightened off after an 80-year-old man shouted out during the incident.

The elderly victim was at home in Battenburg Avenue, North End, Portsmouth, when an intruder entered the property via the back door.

The victim spotted the burglar’s torch light and shouted out, scaring the burglar off.

The offender fled the address, snatching two gold coins on the way.

One of the coins was a gold ship penny and the other was a gold ship half penny – both valued at £30.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on October 21.

Officers would like to hear from anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the stolen coins.
