THE actions of teenagers who verbally abused a pensioner and then stole his mobility scooter have been described as ‘cowardly’ by police.

They are appealing for help to identify the three teenagers involved, who after threatening the 75-year-old man took his scooter and crashed it into a doorway.

The incident took place outside Hale Court, Kingston Road, Fratton at around 4.30pm on Friday, August 9.

Police say the three teens, aged between 16 and 18, were seen drinking in the street and throwing bottles at passers-by when the victim asked them to stop behaving in such a way.

The scooter was a Red Shopper Rider motability scooter.

Det Con Pete Bambury said: ‘This is a cowardly attack on a pensioner on a busy road in broad daylight. I am hoping that someone may have seen the three men sitting on the bench, drinking and causing anti-social problems for anyone who went past them.’

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Bambury at Fratton police station on 101.
