RESIDENTS are fighting back against rogue traders with a fair trade scheme.

Square Deal, run by Portsmouth City Council, has seen a surge in membership and referrals as residents and businesses say no to dodgy traders.

It is designed to help protect Portsmouth residents from rip-off merchants. Visitors to the website can search for tradesmen, view in-depth information about them and make contact with the peace of mind that they meet the council’s trading standards.

Square Deal is powered by local IT specialists, Radweb. Steve Rad, manager of the scheme said; ‘In tough times no one can afford the risk of paying out for dodgy work only for it to need rectifying later, so people are making sure they choose their tradesmen more wisely than ever.

‘Square Deal gives the people of Portsmouth the means to make informed purchasing decisions rather than sorting things out after they’ve gone wrong.

‘It also allows quality tradesman and businesses a platform to show how well they work, display testimonials from happy customers and gives them a high level of local exposure.’
