A THIEF posing as a builder stole cash from an 88-year-old man in Portsmouth.

The victim was addressed by his first name when he opened the door of his home to a stranger who offered to do some work on the property.

The pensioner, who lives in Hayling Avenue, Copnor, declined but the caller then asked to use the toilet.

He had returned downstairs and left the house before his victim noticed that cash was missing. The suspect is white, aged between 40 and 50, around 5ft 10ins, and of medium build.

Detective Constable Jacqueline Foley said: ‘This was a despicable crime committed against an elderly man. The incident took place between 10am and 3pm on Monday.
