POLICE are asking for help to identify a man suspected of an assault in Lake Road, Portsmouth.

The attack happened between 3.40am and 4am on Sunday, when the 21-year-old victim was near the junction of Fratton Road.

He was approached by a man who punched his head before walking off north along Fratton Road. The victim received facial injuries and was treated in hospital.

The suspect was white, around 30, stocky and about 6ft 1in.

He was said to have spiky blond hair, a tattoo on the side of his neck, and he wore a distinctive white T-shirt covered with a number of blue stars about the size of a one pence piece, and blue chino-type trousers.

Det Con Peter Bugden said: ‘This was a violent and unprovoked attack on the victim who was returning home after a night out.’
