Police are trying to identify the body of a woman pulled from the sea after a bike was found nearby.

The bike, with a basket on the front, was locked to a post at the entrance to an alleyway by Aldwick Hundred, Craigwell Lane, Bognor, Sussex Police said.

A bag and coat were found at the other end of the alleyway by the beach.

The woman, whose death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, was pulled from the water a mile off Bognor at 4pm on Monday.

Detective Constable Claire Daysh said: ‘We have been unable to identify the woman and are appealing for anyone with information about who this may be, or who saw her bike or bag and clothing.’

The woman was white, 5ft 5in, 13st, large, with long, wavy, dyed brown hair.

She had a gold and silver ribbon tied to her right wrist, wore a black wrist wallet and was wearing a purple t-shirt with the logo Basic Original by South Lodge, police said.
