Police campaign to crack down on nuisance motorbikes in Havant is a big success

In the past three months, there have been just seven reports of nuisance to Havant police.

It follows the use of more high-visibility patrols in problem areas.

The campaign was launched after a spate of complaints last September and October, when a total of 38 incidents were reported to police.

The worst-affected area was Warren Park, where 18 reports were made.

Havant PCSO Jason Boulton said: ‘This is a significant reduction in the number of reports we’ve received relating to motorcycle nuisance issues. The work we’ve been undertaking was a direct result of concerns raised to us by local residents and I’m pleased that they have seen such a positive result so quickly.’

Children from Warren Park Primary School have helped with the initiative.

They helped the neighbourhood policing team to design posters about the Section 59 warnings that officers can issue to tackle the problem.

Vehicles involved in committing offences can also be seized where appropriate.

PCSO Boulton said: ‘All anti-social behaviour impacts on people’s daily lives. Engaging with local schools has been at the core of the work we’ve been undertaking to tackle this problem. In the majority of cases teenagers have been riding these bikes. Offences included riding without helmets and riding on pavements.’
