THE importance of Hampshire’s new police and crime commissioner will be explained at a roadshow.

Staff from the police authority are travelling across the county to tell residents why they should cast their vote in the election on November 15.

The commissioners will replace police authorities, which currently oversee police forces.

The commissioner will be responsible for overseeing policing and community safety in Hampshire on behalf of local residents.

Only residents on the electoral roll can vote but people can register by visiting aboutmyvote.co.uk.

The roadshow takes place in Rams Walk Shopping Centre, Petersfield, on Friday between 10am and 2pm.

The election candidates are Michael Mates for the Conservatives, Jacqui Rayment for Labour, independent Simon Hayes, Lib Dem David Goodall and Don Jerrard from the Justice and Anti-Corruption Party.
