Police drive on belting up

Have your say

A TOTAL of 392 people were caught not wearing seat belts by Hampshire police.

Road safety officer Sergeant Rob Heard said: ‘Over the past week we have been targeting those people who still fail to wear a seat belt.

‘We used a number of methods, from unmarked car and bikes, safer camera vehicles, and roadside checks with a spotter.’

Excuses included a woman having the belt under her arm as she had a piercing and one male driver who said: ‘I’m a taxi driver so I’m not used to wearing one.’
