Police give advice on preventing burglaries with East Hampshire events

Yesterday, officers were in Horndean and Rowlands Castle as part of a scheme to address burglaries in rural areas.

East Hampshire is seen as a priority area and the neighbourhood policing teams will be holding events throughout this month.

Chief Inspector Beth Pirie said: ‘These events are an invaluable opportunity for our communities to raise concerns they may have about burglary, especially in rural areas.

‘While burglary levels have remained low in East Hampshire over the last year, we recognise that it is an ongoing area of concern for residents, especially when the theft of specialised items like machinery in rural locations can have a significant impact for victims.’

Police advice to help prevent burglaries include security lighting, CCTV, fitting good locks to windows and doors, leaving equipment out of sight and tagging items.
