Police given more time to question pair arrested in Southsea murder probe

DETECTIVES are continuing to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

It comes after Christopher Butler, 27, was found dead in Waverley Road, Southsea, at 12.35am on New Year’s Day.

The 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder, police said.

And police have been granted more time to question a 48-year-old man and a 29-year-old man held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The pair were arrested on January 6 and officers have until 11pm to question them.

Hampshire police have 24 hours to question someone in custody and then must apply to a senior officer for another 12 hours.

After that, applications for more time must be authorised by the courts.

A maximum of 96 hours can be granted.

n Brendon Michael Willis, 32, of Waverley Road, is charged with murder and appeared at Winchester Crown Court today.

He is next due to appear at the same court on March 24.
