POLICE are hunting a man who assaulted and robbed a woman in Portsmouth.

The 37-year-old victim was walking home after being out celebrating New Year’s Eve in Guildhall Walk in the city.

She had stopped to rest when a man came up to her in the car park at the back of the Lake Road health centre.

He made inappropriate comments before assaulting her and stealing her handbag, which contained an iPhone 4.

The incident happened at sometime between 5.30am and 5.35am on Sunday January 1.

The woman did not sustain any visible injuries but was left shaken.

The man had dark skin and a foreign accent.

He was around 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build.

He had short dark hair, dark stubble and was wearing an V-neck white T-shirt and white three-quarter length shorts with a light check pattern.

Detective Constable Fiona Wright said: ‘We believe the offender may live locally to St Mary’s Road and Lake Road.

‘Anyone who can help identify this man, or has any information is asked to contact us on 101.’
