A MAN was left with facial injuries after being assaulted by a gang of men in a late-night attack.

The 34-year-old victim was set upon by the group of three or four people in Bransbury Road, Eastney, near the junction with Bransbury Park and Ringwood Road.

He needed hospital treatment following the assault, which happened between 2am and 2.20am on June 19.

Now police are urging potential witnesses who have not yet come forward to get in touch.

Det Con James Garrett, from Portsmouth CID, said: ‘Officers have been following several lines of inquiry in the community over the past week.

‘I’d like to thank people who have helped the investigation so far move forward.

‘We recognise that some members of the community may be concerned about contacting the police with what they know, but I would again appeal to local residents to think back to the early hours of Sunday, June 19.

‘It is possible that more people may have seen what happened or a group of men running away along Ringwood Road.’

The suspects are described by the victim as being aged in their late teens, tall and skinny.

One is said to have been wearing a red hooded top and grey tracksuit trousers.

Another wore a light grey tracksuit.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Garrett at Fratton station on 101 or 0845 0454545.

Or call the Crimestoppers number, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
