POLICE are hunting armed robbers who burst into a pub and stole money from a safe.

Detectives say at around 10.45pm on Monday staff were in the office of the Fox and Hounds pub, in Bursledon when three to four robbers forced open the back door.

The offenders, who were wearing balaclavas and were armed with what appeared to be a handgun, went into the office and demanded the keys for the safe and took cash from it.

They then left the pub on foot, heading towards nearby woods. No-one was injured.

Detective Sergeant Sally French said: ‘I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident, to come forward and speak to us.

‘At the time of the robbery there were a number of staff members on the premises as well as customers who were finishing their drinks before closing time. Fortunately no-one was injured, however, the staff and customers have been left shocked and distressed by what has happened.

‘I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to come forward and speak to us.’
