THREE burglaries in which cars were stolen are being linked by police.

The latest theft happened between 8.30pm and 11.45pm on Friday when a Renault Clio was stolen from Cottage Grove in Somers Town, Portsmouth.

The car keys had been taken during a break-in on the same street earlier that evening.

Thieves also stole a £15,000 Ford C-Max Titanum following a burglary in Cotton Road, Milton, Portsmouth, between 7pm and 10.15pm on the same evening.

And an £800 Hyundai Matrix was taken from Belmont Street, Southsea, between 8pm last Thursday and 1.30am on Friday.

Again the car keys had been seized during a burglary at a nearby property.

PC Kathryn Smithers from the Burglary Investigation Team at Fratton police station said: ‘We would appeal to anyone with information relating to these three burglaries to come forward.

‘Homeowners are advised to think carefully about where they store their car keys, don’t leave them in a place which is easily accessible to burglars.

‘It is also important to ensure your home is secure, double locking doors and windows in unoccupied rooms and when you leave the house.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Smithers at Fratton police station on 101 or 0845 0454545.
