Police plan strong presence for Pompey v Plymouth clash

Police have moved to reassure residents as Pompey prepare to host Plymouth in a crucial match.

Hampshire Constabulary says it will have a ‘strong presence’ around Fratton Park on Thursday night as the sides meet in a League Two play-off semi-final first leg tie.

In a message to local residents, police said: ‘The presence is to help ensure that local businesses and residents can go about their daily lives with as little inconvenience as possible and that the safety of genuine supporters of both clubs can be provided for.

‘There is always the possibility that the minority will attempt to cause problems.

‘Where they do, it is hoped that our presence will keep any disruption of your day to a minimum.’

The message was issued by the Eastney and Milton Neighbourhood Policing Team.
