Police sealed off a Gosport tip after an artillery shell was found there

Police closed the household recycling centre, off Grange Road, for a bomb squad investigation after the discovery by a member of the public.

It was sealed off to the public from this morning and the cordon has just been lifted.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘We can confirm a police cordon has been lifted at Gosport recycling centre today.

‘Hampshire Constabulary had sealed off the area while an item reported by a member of the public was assessed by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

‘The item was identified as an artillery shell, which has been removed from the site.’
