Gosport police posted on Twitter: ‘Overnight located two vehicles in Beach Road car park. Two women from Paulsgrove and two men from Havant were found to be in breach of Covid-19 regulations and have been reported for summons.’

Police were carrying out the patrols as part of Operation Momentum which tackles vehicular related noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour within Gosport and Fareham.

The operation has been created to work in partnership, supporting local authorities and landowners in order to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

A previous incident just before midnight on December 28 resulted in three occupants from different households being found in a single vehicle.

As a result, two 19-year-old women and a 19-year-old man were reported for summons on that occasion.

After that occasion Inspector Matt Wake said: ‘Everyone has to do their bit to limit the spread of the virus. Our approach has always been to engage, explain and encourage people to act responsibly, but we won’t hesitate to use enforcement action where necessary.’
