ARMED police were called to carry out a search after there were reports of a man on the streets wielding a machete.

The call was put in to the emergency services at 7pm today and a large police presence, including police dogs and armed police, was called to the scene in Grove Road North, Southsea.

A search of the surrounding area was called off at 9pm after nothing was found and no further reports were made.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that nobody was injured, although she encouraged anybody with information to call police on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
