POLICE searching open spaces and parks in a bid to crackdown on knife crime found seven ‘items’.

Officers in Havant and Waterlooville are taking part in Op Sceptre, a nationwide campaign.

As part of this officers have been checking parks, open spaces and greens for any knives that have been left behind. Hampshire police said officers were searching for knives that may be used in crime, or ones that may be stashed to use in future.

Two items were found in a search at Wecock Farm on Tuesday. Two items were found in Tennyson Crescent, Waterlooville, and three in Laburnum Road.

Police said they were ‘conducting a sweep of our neighbourhood’ to keep knives off the streets.
