CONCERNS have been raised as police stations in the area are reducing their front desk opening times.

Hampshire Constabulary has been reviewing front office use since August last year.

The force looked at how many people turned up at each station and the demand on services.

Gosport police station will see reduced opening times, with the front desk open 10am to 3pm on a Monday, 1pm to 6pm on Wednesday and 10am to 4pm on Wednesday. Before the review it was open 9.30am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Councillor Peter Chegwyn is the Liberal Democrat opposition group leader at Gosport Borough Council and a member of Hampshire County Council.

He is calling for the changes, due to come into effect on Monday, to be reversed.

He said: ‘Members of the public I speak to feel more secure in the knowledge that their police station is open and accessible most days at present. That will no longer be the case.’

It comes as Hampshire police looked at closing the station and moving officers into the town hall in Gosport.

The changes mean Havant’s front desk will close on Friday and Saturday, with Waterlooville station opening up on those days from 8am to 8pm and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.

Fareham police station, currently open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, and Sunday 10am to 6pm, will see its Sunday hours reduced to 9am to 5pm.

Portsmouth Central will remain open Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm and on bank holidays from 10am to 6pm.
