THREE car fires which happened in the early hours of Sunday are being linked by police.

Two vans and a BMW were set alight between 12.50am and 1.20am yesterday.

Firefighters from Havant were called to each incident and said all three fires were started from the vehicles’ wheel trims.

The first call was to Soberton Road.

Crew manager Roger Witheren said: ‘The wheel trim of a van had been set on fire.

‘We were called at 12.50am.

‘We used a hose reel to put out the fire.

‘Straight after that we were called to Blendworth Crescent at 1.05am.

‘It was another fire to the wheel trim of a van.

‘We were called again to Holyborne Road at 1.20am.

‘This time the wheel trim of a BMW was set alight.

‘This fire had spread to the vehicle and as a result caused 20 per cent fire damage.

‘We used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus.’

Hampshire Constabulary said it is treating the three fires as suspicious.

A spokesman said: ‘Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service called us and we attended as a result.

‘The first vehicle was a white Ford Connect van.

‘The second was a Toyota white panel van and the third was a black BMW saloon.

‘They are being investigated as arson.’

No one was injured in the incidents.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
