WOMEN and the wider community are being urged to continue to be vigilant following three assaults over the past three weeks.

Police in Portsmouth are advising people to continue with their daily lives and businesses as normal, however where possible take extra precautions and report any suspicious behaviour.

It comes after a woman was assaulted in an alleyway between Colwell Road and Northern Road in Cosham at around 1pm yesterday.

Police have said the woman was released from hospital last night and is at home with her family.

A 30-year-old man was arrested last night and remains in police custody.

Increased police patrols have remained in place in the area over the weekend to provide reassurance to the community.

Police are aware of a number of rumours circulating about assaults in the area and have reminded the public to avoid sharing inaccurate information on social media.

Witnesses to any of the assaults or anyone with information are asked to call the Hampshire Major Investigation Team (HMIT) at Fratton Police Station on 101, quoting Operation Bedham.

Information can be given anonymously by phoning the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
