Policeman taken to hospital after street attack

A POLICEMAN needed hospital treatment for concussion after he and a fellow officer were attacked in the street.

Police say the assault happened when the officers approached an unruly group of men and women in Hamble.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘We were called to the area at about 10.20pm on Saturday after receiving reports of a group of young men and women who were causing problems in the pubs. When asked to leave the area, officers were met with resistance.

‘Two police officers were assaulted; one of which suffered concussion and was taken to hosptial.

‘We’re really keen to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened or anyone who may have mobile phone footage of the incident.

‘A 20-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.

‘Please call 101 with info quoting 44160303850.’
