Pompey ranked league's highest for arrests at matches

Figures released today by the Home Office also show 15 supporters had banning orders from Portsmouth games as of August this year.

The number of arrests has nearly doubled over the last 12 months, with 39 people arrested during the 2015/16 season compared to 22 the season before.

Portsmouth had the highest arrest figure in League 2 last year, with promoted side Oxford United recording 29.

The most common cause for arrests of Pompey fans last season were public disorders (21 arrests) and alcohol offences (seven).

Three fans were arrested following rival clashes after the Blues lost 3-0 at home to Newport County in March.

And one supporter was taken away by police halfway through Portsmouth’s play-off match against Plymouth Argyle in May.

The 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a racially-aggravated public order offence.

Five new banning orders were handed out to Portsmouth supporters over the last year.

Nationally 1,895 fans football-related arrests were made last season, the first increase in three years.

But arrests for violent disorder were the highest in three years, while those related to criminal damage were the highest in four.
