Hanley pleaded guilty to attempted murder at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Daniel Mullings, 38, received a phone call from police telling him Sarah, 37, was at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham after Karen Hanley attacked her.

He said: ‘It was pretty scary, she looked an absolute mess.

‘She was virtually unrecognisable, to see someone you love in that state is horrible.

‘When it’s out of your hands and there’s nothing you can do it’s very scary.’

He added: ‘She’s not even recovered.’
