STEALING a case of beer cost David Wheatcroft £88.

The 44-year-old took the beer, worth £13, from the Co-op in New Road, Portsmouth.

Wheatcroft, of Moorland Road, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £40, with £35 in costs and told to pay £13 in compensation to the Co-op. The money will be taken out of the benefits he receives.
