AN elderly man’s £70,000 lifesavings reported stolen from a coach has been found - as he had left it at an airport.

Police were called amid fears the 81-year-old’s cash had been snatched after he loaded it onto a Portsmouth-bound National Express bus from London Heathrow.

The British man, who lives in Thailand, thought he had put a black holdall containing the money - made up of Australian dollars and Thai baht - in the coach’s hold.

But he discovered the bag was not on board on his arrival in Portsmouth about three hours later at 8pm on Tuesday.

Now police say CCTV footage revealed the man left the bag on a luggage trolley at Heathrow Airport.

The man was planning to use the cash to buy a property back in the UK.

Police said they are now working to reunite the owner with the money.
