Portsmouth city centre stand-off: Man in court

A Portsmouth man has appeared before magistrates today following a three-hour armed stand-off with police in the city centre at the weekend.

Toby Maylott, 20, of no fixed abode, was charged with threatening a number of people with a knife in the Virgin Media shop, affray and allegedly assaulting a man in his 40s by throwing an alcohol gel bottle.

No plea was entered and city magistrates sent the case to Portsmouth Crown Court on December 4.

Saleem Chaudhry, defending, made an application for bail, but this was refused by bthe court and Maylott was remanded in custody.
