A MAN caught with thousands of indecent images of children has an ‘addiction’, a court heard.

Dad Neil Roberts admitted possessing 10,346 pornographic photographs of children between March 2009 and May last year.

The 44-year-old, of Lidiard Gardens, Southsea, also pleaded guilty to possessing an extreme pornographic image in April 2010.

Roberts also admitted six further charges of making an indecent image of a child between August 2000 and March 2009.

Terence Brookes, defending Roberts, told Portsmouth Crown Court: ‘He is 44 years of age and of previous good character.

‘As a result of these offences he has separated and is being divorced by his wife. He has no contact with his children, he is suffering depression and he is very anxious of overcoming what he refers to as the addiction that led him before this court.’

Roberts was released on bail and was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.

He is due to be sentenced next month.
