Portsmouth hammer attack accused appears in court
A MAN has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl in a hammer attack.
James Hemming, 28, of Unicorn House, Cross Street, Portsea, Portsmouth appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court via videolink from Winchester prison.
Hemming sat with his hands folded on his lap, and spoke only to confirm his name and that he could hear.
Hemming was charged with attempted murder after a hammer attack on a 17-year-old girl in Shearer Road, Buckland, on April 11.
He did not enter a plea today. Hemming will appear in court again on July 15 and a trial date has been set for October 10.
Adjourning the case, judge Sarah Munro QC told Hemming: ‘Between now and your next court appearance you will remain in custody.’
