A MAN was given a suspended prison sentence for assault.

Simon Woodburn, 27, of Malthouse Road, Portsmouth, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in Kingston Road on August 23. Woodburn was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months. He committed a sustained assault on a vulnerable victim while under the influence of drink and drugs.

The attack had a long-term impact on the victim.

Woodburn called 999 and stayed until paramedics arrived. He must pay £500 compensation and £165 costs and victim fee.
