A 26-YEAR-OLD man arrested following the death of a Waterlooville woman after her car flipped off the A3 has been bailed whilst police continue their investigations.
Laura Westbrook, 22, died of serious injuries after her car was involved in an incident with a black Ford Focus heading southbound near Clanfield at 11.05pm on Thursday. There is no evidence to suggest the two vehicles collided.
Hampshire Constabulary has today revealed that the driver of the Focus, a 26-year-old man from Portsmouth, has been bailed until December 15 pending further enquiries.
He has been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, in connection with possessing a quantity of a class B drug – cannabis – and causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Popular Laura was on her way back from work at Estee Lauder’s Whitman Laboratories plant in Petersfield when her white Vauxhall Corsa came off the carriageway and ended up on its roof. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Laura’s best friends, Amy Rose and Maria Featherstone, have already paid tribute to their ‘gem’ who they were planning to go on holiday with in January.
In a statement, the pair said: ‘You can’t put our Laura into words, she was one of a kind. She loved to travel – we were planning to go to Rome in January.
‘She looked after her crew and always made us smile, she was our best friend and our world.
‘She had her whole life ahead of her and her plans were mapped out.’
A memorial drinks gathering is to be held next weekend to celebrate Laura’s life.
Anyone with information or who saw either vehicle is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting 44160349433, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
