A MAN who was thought to have gone missing has been found dead.

The family of Steven Carter, 51, told The News yesterday they understood he went missing on Monday morning after leaving his home in Hawthorn Crescent, Cosham.

But they now understand he has been found dead at his home, which he shared with his fiancee.

His daughter, Terri Carter, from Southampton, told The News that Steven had not gone missing before.

She added that it would have been out of character for him to do so.

A Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘Police responding to a missing person report have found the body of a man at a property in Hawthorn Crescent, Cosham, at 12.30pm.

‘We are in the process of informing next of kin.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.’

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it sent two ambulance officers and a hazardous area response team to the address.

She added: ‘One patient was confirmed deceased at the scene.’

The fire service also attended the address yesterday but did not release details.
