A MAN who admitted being in charge of a motorbike while almost twice the legal alcohol limit has escaped a ban.

Robert Clay, of Queens Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, committed the crime in Wakefords Way, Havant. A test revealed his breath contained 68 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres. The legal limit is 35mg.

Clay was told to pay £315 in a fine and costs by Portsmouth magistrates. Ten points were added to his licence. He was spared a ban as he was not riding the bike at the time.
