A 70-YEAR-OLD drink-driver who was more than twice the legal limit has been banned from the roads for three years.

George Ward was stopped by the police as he drove a Volkswagen Polo in Lake Road, Portsmouth.

A breathalyser test showed he had 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – just over twice the legal limit of 35mg.

Ward, of Brownlow Close, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £150 and told to pay £100 in costs.
