Portsmouth police appeal for help in tackling speeding

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help police to curb speeding.

Officers are looking for people in Portsea to give up their time to become a community speed watch volunteer.

The initiative will see supporters monitoring speeds along roads across the city.

They will then feed this information back to police who can prioritise problem areas on the island.

PCSO Richard Langley, who is part of the team leading the idea, said this is the first project of its kind in the area.

He said: ‘We are looking for keen and committed members of the community to help us set up a Community Speed Watch programme.

‘The idea of the scheme is to work locally to monitor the speed of traffic and help us gather information on where problems lie. You would be part of a new team, working together to tackle speeding.’
