A VODKA thief who resisted arrest has been given a conditional discharge.

Nathan Byng, of Stamshaw Road, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of Tesco own-brand vodka from the store at Clement Attlee Way in Portsmouth on March 22.

The 28-year-old also admitted a charge of resisting PC David Jackson in the execution of his duty at the store on the same day. Byng was given a 12-month conditional discharge by Fareham magistrates.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs. Magistrates made no order for compensation because the stolen goods were recovered.
