PEOPLE working to tackle youth reoffending have been praised.

It comes as Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner Simon Hayes visited Portsmouth’s youth offending team.

He praised work being done at the Junior Attendance Centre, where children aged 10 to 17 go as part of their sentence.

Mr Hayes said: ‘I was delighted to visit the Junior Attendance Centre to see the great work Portsmouth Youth Offending Team is doing to help prevent young people from reoffending.

‘Programmes such as this one play a significant role in helping me progress the commitment I made in my Police and Crime Plan to reduce reoffending.’

Officer in charge Heather Wright added she was pleased with the visit.

Youths at the centre go to sessions on victim awareness and skills development.
