A DRUG addict who has clocked up nearly 100 convictions for theft has been jailed.

Daniel Powell was arrested after stealing six bottles of Jack Daniels, worth £144, from Tesco in Crasswell Street, Portsmouth.

At the time Powell was out early after serving part of a 12-month prison sentence for six burglaries, two thefts and possessing class A drugs.

The 30-year-old, of Fyning Street, Landport, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

District Judge Anne Arnold heard he had 97 previous convictions for theft.

He was jailed for two months.
