AN 88-year-old man almost fell victim to a suspected conman in an attempted distraction burglary.

At about 6.25pm on Friday, a suspected bogus caller went into the victim’s home in Bromyard Crescent in Paulsgrove.

He convinced him that a burst water pipe was causing problems. When the man asked for change for a £50 note the pensioner told him to leave. Nothing was stolen.

The caller was a white man, in his early 20s, and just under 6ft. He wore dark clothes. Call Det Con Daisy Sharma at Portsmouth Central Station on 101.
