POLICE have urged residents to be vigilant as a cold-calling scam gains traction.
Officers say doorstep fraudsters are targeting properties in the Alverstoke, Gosport.
Allegedly, the scammers are knocking on doors offering gardening and DIY work – but are actually bogus and attempting to carry out organised crime at properties they attend.
In a list of advice published by Hampshire Constabulary, residents in the region are encouraged to ask cold callers for ID, use a chain when opening the front door, lock the back door before answering to avoid distraction techniques or arrange an appointment via telephone for a time when friends or family are present.
If you are a victim of fraud, you can call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
