A FORMER court magistrate is warning people to be on their guard after almost falling for a scam.
Vicky Warren, 78, received an official-looking letter from the ‘international post code lottery’, telling her she had won £720,000 and a cheque would be delivered.
But on the day of the delivery Mrs Warren, of Willowdene Close, Bedhampton, got another letter saying she would have to pay a ‘clearance fee’ of 10 per cent of the winnings in order to get the cash.
She said: ‘It was quite an official-looking letter.
‘How many other people have been sent this letter?
‘It’s a bit disturbing to think other elderly people will perhaps get this and believe it.
‘Something has to be done about it because some poor soul might part with their cash. It’s a big scam.’
