POLICE have highlighted the dangers of postal scams asking for personal information.
It comes after West Leigh resident Bob Prowting told The News he received a letter saying he had won £720,000 on The Euromillions International Postcode Lottery.
It requested he called a phone number to claim his prize - even though he had never heard of the prize draw.
Essex police have already warned that the ‘postcode lottery’ letters are a scam.
Mr Prowting said: ‘I wasn’t concerned because I can get things like that out of my head and I just tore it up. But there are people who are less fortunate and things like this could convince them.’
Hampshire Constabulary says many postal scams look genuine and are designed to trick you, and if you respond you may be bombarded by others. Call Consumer Direct for help on 0845 404 0506.
